There are hardly any breweries that have a more tempting name than this one: Free beer sounds like a wonderful melody to our beer-thirsty ears and we drop everything to find out what lies behind this promising title. Stay tuned, because it's not just the name that's unusual about this brewery!
In order not to keep you in suspense unnecessarily, we first want to clarify what the two Regensburg brewers Sven and Michael aka Vesper and Dino actually mean by free beer. They are not interested in giving away their carefully brewed works; rather, the title of their brewery revolves around the idea of beer as a common good accessible to all. The two resourceful brewers sell their beer, but allow any skilled homebrewer to brew their recipes and beers at home completely free of charge. A QR code or link on the bottle takes you directly to the recipe and there you will find all the information about the beer you are currently enjoying. The idea for this maximum transparency is based on the open culture of hobby brewers. It is common practice among non-commercial brewers to exchange recipes, experiences, tips, and tricks. With their practice, the two founders of freibier.cc go a step further and enable laypeople to try out their recipes.
The brewery was founded by a happy coincidence. After Dino and Vesper met while studying at Weihenstephan University, their paths crossed again and again. They worked on projects together, met professionally and became good friends. When Dino visited a storage room in a former animal feed factory one day, Vesper was there too and both agreed: This storage room is not a storage facility, but a brewery! The fully tiled room was the foundation stone, the rest followed in no time. Brewing could soon begin and the duo experimented with styles, ingredients and recipes. As demand for the delicious beers from freibier.cc grew steadily, the brewers had to occasionally resort to the brewing systems of friendly breweries. The storage room was bursting at the seams and forced the two to live as cuckoo brewers. In May 2021, a solution was found: the laboratory of the former animal feed factory became available and Dino and Vesper were able to expand their small brewery.
We recommend the creations of freibier.cc to everyone who enjoys unconventional, free, tasty and experimental beer.
