HiteJinro is the name of a beverage company known in its home country of South Korea primarily for the production of soju. With output from three locations, HiteJinro leads the world rankings of the most successful soju distilleries and produces one of the most popular spirits on earth. Soju is traditionally distilled from fermented rice, but today it is sometimes distilled with starchy raw materials such as grains or potatoes. This fine spirit is as clear as water and is often served with food or as a digestif afterward. However, this article is not about HiteJinro's distillery branch, but rather the brewery of the same name, which is also part of the beverage empire.
Jinro was founded just over 100 years ago and quickly established itself as one of the most important beverage suppliers in the South Korean market. In 2006, the company was acquired by the Hite brand. Hite is a beverage producer with a focus on beer. This development not only changed the name but also expanded the product range to include another product: brews such as HiteJinro TERRA . The main sources of income were and still are the various distillates such as soju and whiskey, but the house beer also has a good reputation in East Asia and is slowly but surely conquering the global beverage market. TERRA, for example, got off to a real rocket start when it was first released. Within the first 100 days of its release, 100 million bottles were sold. The reasons for this success are certainly the quality, taste and attention to detail. Unlike many Asian brews, the feather-light lager is not brewed with rice and is not carbonated. TERRA is based on 100% Australian malt and has a wonderfully sparkling, effervescent mouthfeel that is achieved solely through patience in the fermentation process.
Korea is a fascinating country with countless attractions. Cities like Seoul and Busan attract millions of visitors every year, national parks beckon with breathtaking natural scenery, Jeju and other islands invite you to swim, hike, and vacation, and the local food is so diverse and delicious that it's worth a visit in itself. However, South Korea is at least a 12-hour flight from Germany, making it a bit of a challenge to reach. If you still want to immerse yourself in the exciting culture and experience its culinary delights, you should try the delicious creations from HiteJinro (and perhaps order something to eat at the local Korean restaurant)!
