For Sérgio and Patricia, as for many others, the impetus for their brewing career was their passion for good beer. At some point, the two Luxembourgers were no longer satisfied with the enjoyment of fine beers; they wanted to put their beer ideas into practice themselves and make their hop dreams come true. Before the whole thing was ready for sale, however, the two brewed a lot of beer at home.
The craft beer movement has brought momentum to the beer business in many ways: Not only are there new, young breweries opening almost every day, but more and more career changers are also finding their way into the brewhouses via one detour or another. Programmers, dentists and winemakers have turned their backs on their professions to follow their love of beer. Patricia and Sérgio also did not take the classic route of training to become brewers, but simply got started. The first beer experiments were made in their own four walls and after a while they produced really tasty brewed products. After friends, family and relatives had convinced the two of them of the quality and drinkability of their beers, they took the step to commercial brewing in 2017 and made their project official under the name Totenhopfen Brauhaus. After a very short time they had exceeded the borders of Luxembourg and sold their beer to the surrounding countries. With their exquisite creations, Patricia and Sérgio took Europe by storm and their courage was rewarded with prestigious awards and prizes. Within three stormy years, the Totenhopfen Brauhaus established itself on the international beer market and has been named the best brewery in Luxembourg and one of the best breweries in the world several times by RateBeer.
In order to minimize the risk at the beginning, the two rocket starters decided against their own brewing system. As cuckoo brewers, they have been traveling the world since their founding and brewing their beer in the hallowed halls of other brewers. Not only have they made a whole lot of new friends, but they also pursue the great goal of networking European brewers. For Sérgio and Patricia, craft beer is so much more than just a luxury item: craft beer is an integral part of their quality of life and, in addition to enjoyment and fun, it also provides a connection between people, challenges and surprises. The beers from the Luxembourg brewery shine with uniform labels in the style of artistic woodcuts and not only look good on the outside. Taste is key and this is played more than generously at Totenhopfen. All beers are subtly composed creations that have been created in collaboration with respected brewers from all over Europe.
