Hübner Bräu in Steinfeld is a traditional, privately owned brewery deeply rooted in Franconian beer culture for centuries. With its historic brewing tradition and a cozy brewery tavern at the gateway to Franconian Switzerland, Hübner Bräu embodies what many beer enthusiasts understand as authentic Franconian beer culture: handcrafted creations, a family atmosphere, and a vibrant brewery community.
The brewery's origins can be traced back to around 1720, making it one of the oldest breweries in the region. Since 1820, the business has been continuously owned by the Hübner family. In its anniversary year of 2020, Hübner Bräu celebrated 200 years of family ownership – an impressive testament to continuity and tradition in a time when many small breweries are falling victim to increasing competition and have to hang up their mash paddles. The brewery has established itself over generations as a small, privately owned brewery with a family atmosphere. Otto Hübner shaped the company for many years, which is why the distinctive full-bodied beer is affectionately known as "Otto Beer" in the region. Since 2003, his nephew Thomas Will has taken over the management of the brewery and is carrying on the family tradition into the next generation. The brewery is closely linked to the regional culture and typical Franconian hospitality: In addition to producing beer, Hübner Bräu operates a brewery tavern with a rustic atmosphere and beer garden, welcoming both locals and visitors. The facility also includes its own distillery, further emphasizing the traditional craftsmanship.
Hübner Bräu's beers represent a down-to-earth, traditional Bavarian brewing style, cultivated in Franconia for centuries. Brewed according to time-honored family recipes, they possess a distinctive, authentic character. The focus is on smooth, well-balanced beers that impress not with fleeting trends, but with their artisanal quality, regional roots, and consistency. The brewery consciously aligns itself with the Franconian seasons, regularly supplementing its range with seasonal specialties that complement church festivals, regional celebrations, and special occasions. This understanding of beer as an integral part of everyday and festive culture is also reflected in the brewery's commitment. Hübner Bräu is deeply connected to village life and the region, serving as a meeting place for locals and visitors alike. With its brewery tavern, beer garden, and dedication to Franconian culinary and tavern culture, the brewery actively contributes to preserving regional traditions. Thus, Hübner Bräu remains not only a place of artisanal beer production, but a living part of Franconian identity.
