Hawaii - flower garlands, surfboards and gentle ukulele sounds wafting across the white sandy beach. It's just a shame that beer has no place in this chain of associations. Don't panic, this textual introduction is no longer quite up to date. You might even think it's prehistoric, because since 1994 at the latest, Hawaii has not only been a world-famous surfer's paradise - it is also considered the nirvana of civilized beer enjoyment and we have Kona to thank for that.

Hawaii for everyone

Kona loves and lives Hawaii, and that is not only evident from the design of the labels with surfers, palm trees, beaches and wild mountain landscapes. The bottle caps of the Longboard Island Lager and the Fire Rock Pale Ale stand out as a special gimmick. Hawaiian words are printed on a total of 50 different corks. Like Kona - the side of the coast facing the wind direction - which we know thanks to a short trip to Hawaii. But Kona not only spreads love for their homeland, they also do something to protect it and preserve it for future generations. Kona has developed a well-developed concept for environmental protection and pays attention to sustainability and renewable energy when brewing. Luckily the sun almost always shines in Hawaii, otherwise we might have to do without the good beer!

Aloha, Kona!

Together with his son Spoon Khalsa, Cameron Healy founded Kona Brewing in 1994. The two wanted to combine their love of Hawaii with their passion for good beer and developed their fine Hawaiian beer. Since then, several superlatives have been developed in relation to the size of the company's more than 20-year history. Kona is one of the most successful craft breweries in the world: the good beer from Kona with the groovy labels can be bought in more than 25 countries around the world. Then as now, the company headquarters is in Kailua-Kona on Hawaii's largest island. The only new thing is the dimensions in which Hawaii's largest brewery now brews. And even though Kona is now part of a larger brewery group, the basic values and Hawaiian serenity have been retained. Aloha is still the all-encompassing motto that, in addition to hello and goodbye, also means love and describes the Hawaiian way of life. Everything is easy and everything is connected – a little bit of Aloha wouldn't hurt us Germans either. Maybe a Big Wave Golden Ale will help?
