Zum Löwenbräu

The undisputed highlight of the small community of Neuhaus near Adelsdorf is the magnificent moated castle and the surrounding ponds. With its onion dome, the castle towers over the roofs of the village and attracts visitors. In addition to this magnificent building, Neuhaus offers a number of other monuments such as the church of St. Matthew, a chapel and some beautiful, historic houses on Schlossstrasse. A brewery has also been one of the village's attractions for just over 275 years.

Ten generations of beer-loving innkeepers

The Zum Löwenbräu brewery was founded in 1747 by Johann Adam Wirth and his wife Barbara Seyfahrt. Neither of them originally came from Neuhaus, so it is a bit of a mystery why they settled here. They probably just liked the idyllic landscape and the friendly Neuhausers. In addition to their brewery, the couple ran an inn, a farm and a cooperage. Johann was a trained brewer and cooper and passed on his enthusiasm for barley juice to his descendants: to this day, there has been and still is at least one person in every generation who learned this craft. The brewery survived the turbulence of both world wars largely unscathed and over the course of the almost three centuries of Zum Löwenbräu, the old brewing facility was renovated and modernized. The premises were expanded, a new inn, a brewhouse and a distillery were built and a good name was made for themselves with down-to-earth beer.

Traditionally Franconian

Today the 10th generation of the Wirth family is at the helm of the company and is carrying Johann and Barbara's legacy into the future with pride and fresh ideas. The care, passion and dedication with which the beer is brewed have remained. Selected raw materials from the immediate vicinity, crystal clear water from the in-house well and recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation form the basis of the outstanding brews. Stylistically, the core range is Franconian. Classics of Franconian and Bavarian brewing populate the shelves. For various occasions throughout the year there are also seasonal specialties such as the Starker Löwe bock beer or the Fest Löwe strong beer , which are a little more sophisticated and powerful than the rest of the range. The Zum Löwenbräu brewery is one of the last to still practice the tradition of home brewing. In the past, you could pick up fresh young beer from the brewery and store and mature it in your own cellar at home. This custom has largely been lost, but at Löwenbräu you can still have beer filled into your own barrel every Wednesday and store the brew at home.
