Nowadays, cans are no longer uncommon on beer shelves. Almost every brewery has beer in cans in its range and some have even switched entirely to tin. However, that wasn’t always the case: canned beer used to have a bad reputation and people automatically associated it with cheap industrial products. Because the can offers optimal storage conditions for the barley juice and is light, handy and stackable, some brewers dared to try it. Among these pioneers was the Ale-Mania team from Bonn.
With their Gose in a can, a little over five years ago they were among the first to put their works in cans. The traditional sour beer was created in collaboration with the Heidenpeters brewery in the capital and is now in its second edition. Their version of Gose is brewed in the classic way with coriander seeds and sea salt. Lactic acid cultures and the Philly Sour yeast variety provide the wonderful acidity that no Gose should be without. Barley and wheat malt form the basis for the brew, while Perle hops provide a mild bitterness. The brew brings a pleasant 5.0% alcohol content to the table and scores with its refreshing character, herbal spice and crisp acidity.
