The small brewery Hanscraft & Co. from Aschaffenburg has two extraordinarily fine Juicy IPAs in its range. The two beers belong to the Split Decision series and only differ in the selection of hops used. Split Decision is available in “ Yakima Style ” and “Hallertau Style” versions. The latter was brewed with the hop varieties Hüll Melon, Hallertauer Blanc and Cascade. All of these hop varieties are grown in the German hop region of Hallertau and are characterized by their particular intensity and the fruity variety of different aromas.
Split Decision Hallertau Style from Hanscraft & Co. is presented in a slightly cloudy sunny yellow and forms a persistent head of foam. A wonderful potpourri of fruity scents rises from the white foam. The experienced nose smells a bouquet of tangy citrus fruits, a hint of white grape and a subtle malt base. Hallertau Style seems to be a little more citrusy than Yakima. This impression is confirmed in the initial taste: this is where the aromatic hops used present themselves at their best. Grapefruit, mandarin, orange and lemon ignite a fruity firework of sweet and sour aromas that are supported by a subtle, malty undertone. The finish is wonderfully dry and presents a little hop bitterness, which is complemented by a long-lasting citrus note.
