The Riedenburger Brauhaus has a wide range of interesting beers on offer. In addition to traditional beers, long-established classics and seasonal specialties, the brewery also offers a range of beers that are made from ancient grains, some of which have long been forgotten.
In addition to spelled, malt and barley, hardly anyone knows any other types of grain these days, but there are a variety of healthy, tasty alternatives to the common types. Emmer, for example, has been cultivated since the beginning of grain cultivation. The ancient grain is one of the wheat plants and is also called two-grain. The grain has a fine, nutty taste and scores with its high protein and mineral content. In beer, emmer provides an attractively dark color and a wonderful spiciness.
The historic Emmerbier from Riedenburger flows into the glass in a chestnut-brown amber tone, and a good amount of creamy, slightly browned foam crowns the beer. When poured, the naturally cloudy beer exudes a tempting scent of dark caramel, roasted nuts, oven-fresh bread crust and sweet, light malt. The initial taste reveals a surprisingly light body with gentle carbonation and a soft, creamy texture. A dominant note of caramel covers the palate and tongue like a blanket, and is joined by the aroma of freshly baked cookies, roasted hazelnuts and roasted grains. A subtle acidity hovers over the play of aromas and elegantly complements it alongside a subtle bitterness.
