It used to be common practice to roast the barley twice before brewing. The malt gained in aroma through double kilning. Dark and highly aromatic, double-drying malt brings an incomparable roasted taste to the beer, which is reminiscent of bygone times with strong, honest beers.
The Riegele brewery follows this old tradition and brews a dark beer specialty that scores with its wonderfully powerful color and a whole lot of taste.
Real dark from Riegele flows into the glass in a copper-red mahogany tone. The glossy beer is covered by a hazelnut-brown crown of creamy foam and has a wonderful bouquet of dark aromas. Strong roasted malt, slightly burnt caramel, dried berries and red fruit jam tickle the olfactory nerves and make you want to take your first sip. This presents a voluminous body with a velvety-soft mouthfeel and pleasant carbonation. Gentle malt caresses the palate and pampers the taste buds with notes of creamy caramel candies, homemade wild berry jam, dried plums and wonderful roasted aromas that taste of coffee beans, dark grains and freshly toasted bread. A gentle note of licorice gives the beer additional spice, while the mild bitterness provides structure and balances the sweetness wonderfully. The beer pleasure ends in a slightly sweet, pleasantly dry finish.
