Eisbock is a very special beer specialty: the dark beer delights us with its intense taste, highly aromatic and multi-faceted.
The Eisbock has a long tradition and, according to legend, was created by a happy coincidence. One fateful evening, a lazy fellow decided not to clear the barrels from the yard anymore. Over the course of the ice-cold winter night, the beer in the wooden barrels froze and when the master came the next morning, the journeyman was punished by having to drink the beer that had supposedly gone bad. To everyone’s great surprise, the beer was by no means spoiled, but had become a delicious, concentrated specialty. Through the freezing process, the beer gained in alcohol and taste. The Eisbock was born! Since then, the freezing method has been further perfected and it no longer requires a lazy person to brew the Eisbock.
The Eisbock flows into the glass in the strong color of mahogany, a slightly tinted, fine-pored foam crowns the deep dark beer. The lively carbon dioxide makes the foam head dance and transports a wonderfully rich scent of spicy clove, dried red fruits, creamy banana and creamy caramel to the nose. The initial drink is full-bodied and tastes wonderfully of classic wheat: clove and banana meet ripe plum on the palate, and a hint of marzipan rounds off the aromas.
