Radler divides the community of beer lovers into two camps: some like it, others don’t. We don’t want to be partial here, but a well-brewed radler is undoubtedly a pretty good refreshment on a hot, dry summer’s day.
A tasty example in our range of delicious mixed beer drinks is the natural shandy from the Schönram private brewery. The creation is made from the popular Schönramer Hell and natural lemon juice and scores with a skilful balance of bitter beer and sparkling, not too sweet lemonade.
Because lemon is an integral part of Mediterranean cuisine, Naturradler is a perfect match for Italian or Greek cuisine. Our favorite dish with the Schönram shandy is a fine lemon risotto with fresh dill and grilled zucchini. The short-grain rice is sweated in butter with celery, carrots, onions, plenty of garlic and the freshly grated zest of a lemon and deglazed with dry white wine. Then gradually stir in the vegetable broth until the rice is cooked but still al dente. A generous knob of cold butter and grated cheese add even more creaminess to the risotto. After seasoning the dish with sea salt and ground black pepper, add lemon juice to taste and a handful of chopped dill. The rice is served with a few slices of zucchini and an ice-cold Schönramer Naturradler.
