Winter is a very special time in the far north. The sea is becoming increasingly rough and an icy wind whips the salty sea air over dikes and dams. A delicate blanket of snow gives the dune landscape a wintry magic and after a long walk you can warm up with Pharisees and hearty kale dishes. Beach fires and winter bathing are just as much a tradition in the north as egg grog and loud parades of drumming children between the years.
The Störtebeker brewery from Stralsund contributes a fine strong beer to the magic of the end of the year: their Winter-Bock is a seasonal specialty that is served as soon as autumn slowly turns into winter. The brew is brewed with malt from light summer barley and Belgian special malt and scores with a strong 6.8% alcohol content and a full-bodied taste that is made up of velvety honey notes and creamy caramel.
The Winter-Bock flows out of the bottle in a golden, shimmering rust red and is crowned with a mixed-pored foam head. A potpourri of toffee, honeyed almonds and candied fruits hits the nose and promises winter enjoyment. The initial drink continues the first impression one-to-one and creates a cozy atmosphere with blossom honey, light malt, caramel and red berries. A touch of hops gives the silky-smooth beer a harmonious freshness.
