No other region in the world has such a concentration of breweries as Franconia and nowhere else are there breweries that have been producing beer for so long. Villages and towns used to have a variety of breweries, today there are still a surprising number of them left and if you drive across the country there is a brewery every few kilometers that invites you to take a break with homemade specialties in liquid and solid form.
One of these breweries is Drei Kronen from Memmelsdorf. The family-run brewery inn looks back on more than 560 years of history and is one of the oldest breweries in the area. The brewery was first mentioned in a document in 1457. In honor of this special year, the team has come up with a beer: the beer-based homage to the year of documents is a fine lager that we offer both in bottles and in practical 5L barrels.
The copper-red brew with an ivory-colored head of foam smells temptingly of nutty malt when poured into the glass. Hints of sweet honey and caramel join in on the nose. The first taste follows this example skillfully and ensnares the palate with a gustatory feast of lightly roasted grain, blossom honey, toffee and roasted nuts. The hops contribute a gentle tartness, fresh pine notes, floral hints and the crisp, bitter finish. Yummy!
