Kellerbier has a long tradition in Franconia. The good cellar beer was brewed right from the beginning of beer brewing in Franconia and it is one of the few beer styles that is still very popular today. A good cellar beer is the perfect accompaniment to a hearty snack and tastes best when you're actually in the cellar. Or at least in the beer garden.
The Stuttgart brewery Libertus follows the tradition of cellar beer and has released its very own version of the Franconian classic. Your Alter Franke is a traditional cellar beer brewed with three types of hops and three types of malt. Pale ale malt, Munich malt and caramel malt provide the wonderful color and the honest, down-to-earth taste. The hop varieties Magnum, Hallertauer Mittel Früh and Hallertauer Hersbrucker give the beer a fine bitterness and the necessary elegance.
The Old Franke flows into the glass in a light, slightly cloudy hazelnut brown and forms a white head of foam. A malty scent rises from the foam: roasted grains and soft caramel meet finely bitter hops and a subtle fruitiness on the nose. When drunk, the Alte Franke is surprisingly soft and light-footed. Sweet caramel malt and roasted nuts caress the palate, and a touch of berries complements the aromatics.
The Old Franke is more elegant than the name suggests. Great malt notes and fine hop tones are well balanced and result in a tasty cellar beer.
