As a Hamburg brewery, the ÜberQuell Brauwerkstätten are part of a rich beer culture. Brewing has been going on in the Hanseatic city for centuries and the Elbperle has its very own specialities. The historic Schifferbier, for example, dates back to the time when international trade in spices, fabrics, tea and other goods was still in its infancy. Weeks and months of sea voyages were the order of the day and required the development of long-lasting brewing pieces. In order to keep the sailors happy, the beer was not allowed to spoil after just a few days, so the city’s master brewers came up with provision beers that could be enjoyed for a particularly long time with a plus in alcohol and hops.
With their Aye Aye Double IPA, the ÜberQuell brewery ties in with these beers. The team has brought the brewers from Fuerst Wiacek from Berlin on board to reinforce them. Together they have catapulted the historic Hamburg beer style into the present. The hop varieties Galaxy, Ekuanot, Mosaic and Simcoe are responsible for the durability and the wonderfully fruity taste. They conjure up a veritable fruit salad of mango, tangerine and passion fruit in the beer and deliver a tart bitterness to match the juicy sweetness, which complements the play of aromas and forms a crisp finish.
