Purple Haze appears in a variety of contexts. Our favorite is the beer of the same name from Abita.
Their Purple Haze is a smooth lager that has been enhanced with raspberries after filtration. A skilful mixture of Pilsner and wheat malt as well as the Vanguard hop variety underlines the character of the fresh summer fruits and harmonises wonderfully with their fruity acidity and restrained sweetness. A delicate shimmer of raspberry red runs through the beer and arouses anticipation of the first drink. The raspberry runs like a red thread through the olfactory and culinary pleasure - sometimes it can even happen that a hint of raspberry puree clouds the beer in places.
Thanks to its refreshing, fruity character, Purple Haze can be paired with a whole range of different foods. We like to drink the raspberry lager with cheese and desserts and have come up with a perfect menu for it. A light starter is a small salad with purslane, roasted almonds and goat's cheese thalers caramelized with honey and thyme, followed by a mountain cheese soufflé with homemade walnut bread and dark onion jam and, as the crowning glory, a ripe Brie with fruit bread and Dijon mustard and a tart for those with a sweet tooth made of dark chocolate with cocoa base, roasted pine nuts and cream on a surface of freshly harvested raspberries.
