The Belgian brewery St. Bernardus has many extremely popular brews in its range, but one surpasses all the others in terms of popularity: Abt 12 is at the top of the brewery's internal beer ranking and has even been named the best beer in the world over the course of its almost 80-year existence. St. Bernardus Abt 12 was first brewed in 1946 and has since become the brewery's flagship product.
Stylistically, the beer belongs to the Belgian Quadrupels. This strong beer style enchants with its varied taste, dark aromas and a few twists - Abt 12 is no exception. The brew flows into the glass in the color of freshly brewed coffee and is crowned with a thick, creamy, hazelnut-brown head. A symphony of roasted grain, toffee, rum-soaked raisins and winter spices rises to the nose and entices you to take a sip. The first sip reveals a silky-soft texture and a full-bodied, almost massive body. The delicate, multifaceted and complex play of aromas consists of dark caramel, hearty roasted malt, dried fruit, Christmas fruit bread and warm spices. A hint of chocolate, a subtle, fruity acidity and a fiery 10.0% alcohol content round off the taste impressively.
Anyone who likes dark, heavy and detailed beers will love Abt 12 from St. Bernardus! We stock this speciality in large 0.75 l bottles and a small sample size.
