The designation Grand Cru is a comprehensive quality mark that is used for wine and champagne as well as chocolate, coffee and cheese. The expression also occurs in the Belgian beer scene when it comes to particularly fine, high-quality and noble specimens. As far as beer is concerned, there is no set rule as to what products can be called Grand Cru, but Belgian breweries usually only give this name to exquisite and special creations .
This applies, for example, to the Grand Cru from the St-Feuillien house: their version is a craft beer specialty that undergoes multi-phase fermentation and accordingly has a complex and rich taste. After the conventional brewing process, the beer is bottled and fermented there a second time. Unlike many other Belgian beers, St-Feuillien Grand Cru contains no spices, so its character is particularly clear, clean and delicate. A unique combination of noble hops and hand-picked ingredients creates a beer that delights with crystal-clear gold and a round, harmoniously balanced character.
The noble drop smells and tastes of spicy yeast, candied orange peel, gently roasted grain and green hop cones. A skilful balance of malty sweetness and hoppy bitterness caresses the palate, the freshness of the hops gives the powerful beer a light-footed elegance.
