The Doppelbock from the Dutch brewery Emelisse is inspired by the German variants of this beer style. In order to get as close as possible to the original, the brewers only used raw materials from Germany to produce this beer.
The result is a powerful Doppelbock with a decent 8.0% alcohol content and a full-bodied character. German bock beer is characterized by the abundance of taste nuances and intensity. The Dutch counterpart can definitely keep up with its role model in these points: The Doppelbock is flavor-intensive and complex.
Emelisse's homage to German strong beer flows into the glass in ruby red amber gold and shimmers in all facets of copper when the light falls. A fleeting veil of slightly tinted foam crowns the beer and exudes a seductive scent of roasted malt, toffee, red forest berries, freshly mown grass and green herbs. The initial taste follows the olfactory first impression and reveals a voluminous body with a great variety of flavors. The malt caresses the palate with strong roasted aromas and soft sweetness. Notes of candied dark fruits and melt-in-the-mouth caramel join in, as well as a hint of smoked food. The roasted aromas bring a fine bitterness with them, which cleverly balances the powerful sweetness. The full 8.0% alcohol content is cleverly integrated into the taste and provides warmth in body and soul. The finish is fruity, bitter and roasted aromatic.
