Although the Wit is actually a classic Belgian style of beer, it is a staple in any Dutch brewery’s range. The beer culture of the neighboring countries has inseparably mixed over the last few centuries and exerted mutual influence, so that today one can hardly distinguish between Belgian and Dutch. We have absolutely nothing against this development, because the resulting beer landscape is bursting with wonderfully intense, tasty and strong specialties.
Rotterdam’s Brouwerij Noordt is no exception, presenting us with a fine mix of Dutch and Belgian brews. Your Wit is brewed according to the original model with coriander seed and orange peel. In addition, the brew contains water, barley and wheat malt as well as oatmeal, yeast, hops and a mild 4.5% alcohol content. The 18 bitterness units are also mild, giving the beer at best a slightly bitter undertone.
The brew piece comes in a slightly cloudy sunny gold and is crowned with an airy foam crown in pure white. When pouring, a cloud of citrus-fresh fragrance fills the nostrils and tickles the olfactory nerves with notes of grapefruit and orange zest. The first sip stretches the citrus thread further and ensnares the palate with a potpourri of grapefruit, lemon and orange. Harmonious herbal notes and hints of light malt join in before the beer enjoyment closes with a dry and crisply bitter finish.
