The Irish brewery Brehon Brewhouse is known for its down-to-earth, strong and flavorful beers. Of course, ale is one of the brewery's specialties, but the brewers also excel at other brewing styles. Red Right Hand is the latest creation and is a barley wine that is worth seeing.
With an incredible 11.0% alcohol content, Red Right Hand is absolutely no lightweight. However, the percentages are so cleverly integrated into the diverse flavor nuances that you hardly notice them. Treacherous! During the maturation process, this barley wine develops into a velvety-soft, creamy beer specialty that surprises with its clean, dry structure.
Red Right Hand flows into the glass in a clear amber tone and shows wonderful rusty red reflections when the light hits it. A slightly tinted foam crowns the beer and exudes a strong scent of roasted almonds, rum-soaked raisins and roasted malt. The initial taste reveals a down-to-earth beer with a decent body and a flattering sweetness. The malt dominates the drinking pleasure and conjures up soft notes of buttery caramel and cream toffee on the tongue. The aromas of fully ripe plums, rum raisins and caramelized nuts complement the aromatics. The hops add a clean, crisp bitterness that perfectly balances the heavy sweetness.
