The Japanese term stands for the pitch-black color of onyx - a stone that is said to have miraculous, powerful powers. In spiritual circles, onyx is considered a warrior stone with protective effects. It calms and combats fear. With their onyx-colored beer, COEDO proudly faces international competition in the fight for the best dark beer in the world.
As expected, Shikokku comes in a deep black mahogany tone and presents itself with a foam head that is reminiscent of black Earl Grey. The rich, complex scent of fresh hops pampers the nose and pairs with the smoky-caramel notes of roasted malt and a lovely note of coffee. Eight different malts are used when brewing this masterpiece and ensure the wonderfully mystical color and full-bodied malt character. Shikokku enchants in taste with dark notes of coffee, dark chocolate and caramel. The lager finishes in a crisp dry finish and is cleverly balanced. Subtly composed bitterness meets sweet malt notes, a surprisingly lively carbon dioxide underlines the play of aromas.
