A giant of a man armed with a handsome sword rides on his horse through the lonely expanses. Rugged rock formations pile up in front of him, wafts of mist hang in the green valleys and it is dead quiet. But the silence is deceptive: in the shadow of the mountains, enemy clans sharpen their swords and prepare for the next relentless battle.
Anyone who thinks that we are talking about a legend of the Scottish Highlands is wrong: The hero of our saga is Beerlander, a great guy from the French equivalent of the Scottish plateau. The Auvergne is home to the Massif Central of France and some of the highest mountains in the country. The green hills and peaks are reminiscent of Scotland’s Highlands and have inspired the Piggy Brewing Company to create their homage to a movie legend.
Beerlander is an incredibly delicious New England IPA that has a pig in a tartan skirt on the label and scores with a hefty 6.4% alcohol content. The beer specialty is brewed with the hops Idaho 7, HBC 692 and Citra and flows into the glass in the straw-golden color of sun-ripened ears of corn. A seductive scent of tangy citrus and tropical fruits rises from the delicate veil of white foam. The taste follows the first impression and inspires with juicy fruit, spicy pine resin and hoppy herbal notes.
