The craft beer movement has brought some new and many old, rediscovered beer styles to the beer landscape. The normal beer drinker's repertoire has expanded from Pils and Bock to a variety of different varieties. Many breweries are following this development with great joy. The brewers now have the opportunity to try out and demonstrate all their skills in unusual, creative and innovative beer styles. The Lithuanian brewery Sakiškių alus has jumped on the bandwagon and has made a name for itself in the beer scene as an innovative, creative brewery.
Their newest baby is a New England IPA that leans into the trend of cloudy, hazy beers. Filtering was yesterday, today we rely on natural yeast and cloudy substances. In cooperation with Prohibicija Bar in Vilnius, the guys have come up with a hoppy masterpiece that is dry-hopped and brewed with wheat and oat flakes. The result is an ultra-cloudy beer that not only looks like multivitamin juice, but also smells like it.
Sakiškių alus NEIPA flows into the glass in the cloudy orange-yellow of a fruit juice and forms a small, slightly tinted head of foam. The hops create a fruity scent that is reminiscent of orange juice, fresh mango, carrot and lemon. A touch of yeast gives the smell a nice spice. The initial drink reveals a fruity, fresh beer experience that has a wonderful range of fruits in its repertoire. The bitterness is wonderfully hidden in silky layers of fruity aromas and only becomes apparent towards the finish.
This NEIPA is an excellent success!
