It takes a good deal of courage to include a whole new type of drink in the range. However, anyone who brews beetroot into the beer definitely does not lack courage.
The Sakiškių alus brewery from Lithuania is known for its wacky creations: Unusual ingredients, long-forgotten brewing techniques and innovative beer styles are not uncommon in the varied repertoire of the former homebrewers. For their latest experiment, the brewers brought their colleagues from the Estonian brewery Tanker to the side. With combined forces, the avant-gardists ventured into a whole new hype that is really shaking up the beer market: hard seltzer . The alcoholic mineral water with a fruit kick is a trend that originated in the United States and is about to spill over into Europe. So it's no wonder that the experimental Baltics felt compelled to put the new trend through its paces.
The result is convincing in every respect. In bright pink, the look is already an absolute hit. Fine bubbles of carbonic acid continuously flow up from the bottom of the glass and feed a delicate veil of white foam. The unmistakable scent of earthy beetroot rises from the fleeting foam crown and mixes in the nose with a wonderful acidity that comes from the currants and the use of exclusive champagne yeast.
The first sip inspires with an outstanding acidity that caresses the tongue and palate with elegant freshness. A fine fruitiness of red currants underlines the dry acidity. The strong note of beetroot cannot be denied: earthy, spicy and hearty, it defies the light-footed fruitiness. The wonderfully dry drink has a feather-light body and tickles the tongue with lots of fine bubbles of carbonic acid.
Fizzy Fuss is an absolutely surprising creation and a brilliant introduction to the illustrious world of hard seltzer - a must for all fans of beetroot and absolutely worth trying for everyone who likes to have unusual drinks in their glasses.
