Pilsner is a beer style that has been popular for almost 200 years. The brew has its origins in Pilsen, Czech Republic, but was invented by the Bavarian master brewer Josef Groll. The beer in the city of Pilsen at that time was not very popular and people were desperately looking for a good alternative. The many natural caves and cellars dug deep into the earth allowed the production of bottom-fermented beer. When the refrigeration machine came onto the market in the second half of the 19th century, the new beer style spread outside the Czech Republic. Thanks to its hoppy character, fine tartness and fresh bitterness, the Pilsner established itself as one of the most popular beers and remains so today - even though there is now an incomparable range of different brews.

In contrast to Hefeweizen, you can drink Pils straight from the bottle, but in this case you are depriving yourself of some of the pleasure. Classic Pilsners flow into the glass in a shiny, crystal-clear gold and crown their flawless appearance with a head of snow-white foam. And you also miss the fresh scent when you drink from the bottle. In order to be able to experience the Pilsner with all your senses, we recommend the right glass. A suitable candidate is, for example, this glass from Spiegelau, which was designed specifically for pilsner enjoyment!
