Brauerei Molter

The harmonious combination of old and new requires a level of sensitivity that not all of us have. Maintaining our roots is important, but we must not miss out on progress. And the fresh wind brings innovation, but we should never forget the experience of the past centuries. One industry that has mastered the combination of the traditional and the brand new particularly well is brewing. rn

Father-son duo revives historic brewery

Two people who have a particularly skilled hand for the harmony of tradition and modernity are Arne Luchner and Lino Molter. The father-son team recently took over the previously disused brewery in Irchenrieth and breathed new life into the historic walls. It is assumed that beer was brewed on the property from the 16th century onwards. It is documented that the Molter family bought the brewery in 1996 and got the brewing business going again. After 15 years, private circumstances forced Claudia and her husband Arne to close the brewery, but now their son Lino is taking over the helm. In 2014, he began restoring the historic brewing facility and renovating the house. With great attention to detail and the aim of saving as much of the traditional equipment as possible, he renovated the old facilities and only added what was really necessary. He received active support from his father Arne, who is a master brewer and can contribute a lot of experience and expertise to the venture. Today they brew in a brew kettle from 1936, which is fired with wood as in the old days and is cooled in the traditional way with sprinkler cooling. rn

Organic by conviction

The team builds a bridge to the present with modern concepts and exquisite raw materials. Sustainability plays a major role at Molter and is practiced not only by recycling the old equipment, but also by using regional ingredients. The hops come from the Friedrich organic farm in Gräfenberg, the malt is sourced from the Kulmbach company IREKS. Both companies work according to the principles of controlled organic farming. The natural beers are protected by the unicorn, which the Molters borrowed from their family coat of arms and promptly made the mascot of their brewery - another clever move in the marriage of tradition and modernity. The Molters' dedication and passion flows into their beer and this is extremely well received by customers: within just a few years, the small brewery from Irchenrieth has established itself as one of the most popular beer producers in the Upper Palatinate and currently offers a range that includes five different brewing specialties.rn
