Many Hanoverians will now cry out: How could the largest body of water in the capital of Lower Saxony be misspelled? Take a deep breath and learn: In this case, it is not a spelling mistake, but a clever play on words. Mashsee is the combination of the English word mash, which means mash, and the Maschsee, the popular local recreation area south of Hanover. From Hanover and with a twist, that's what the Mashsee brewery stands for.

Beer Revolution

The basic idea behind Mashsee was the rebellion against industrial beers and the effects they have on small, artisanal breweries. As founder Alexander Herold has already experienced first hand, large brewery groups are putting an end to their small cousins by buying them up and offering cheap competing products. The master brewer wanted to counteract this trend together with his business partner and beer sommelier Kolja Gigla. They are declaring war on mass-produced products with hand-brewed, high-quality beers. True to the motto quality rather than quantity, the team has four beers in its range instead of forty. This manifesto is accompanied by a great passion for beer and a love of drinking it together. Over one of these beers, Alexander and Kolja realised that the plan to start a brewery was more than just a fleeting beer whim and they made a decision in 2013.

Four wins

The Mashsee Trainingslager has now become a classic - a cold-hopped lager, behind whose name there is again a play on words. It is not a beer that was explicitly brewed for athletes, but rather a training session for the German palate unfamiliar with craft beer, and for the master brewer, who has thereby finally cemented his place in the squad. In addition to the lager, the excited taster can also expect a cold-hopped Baltic Porter called Captain Blaubeer , the no-frills Baltic Porter Hafensänger and, of course, a cold-hopped Pils, Beverly Pils . Alexander is particularly fond of the Pils: you can recognize a true expert by the skilful use of hops, which sets a well-composed Pils clearly apart from its bland colleagues. Alexander is one such expert and hop magician, and he sums up his philosophy briefly: more hops, more malt, more passion, more flavor.
