The Bamberg brewery Schlenkerla proves that wheat does not always have to be golden yellow and light malt with its smoked wheat. This extraordinary creation is brewed like a conventional wheat beer, the only difference is the malt used. Instead of conventionally dried grain, the traditional brewery brews almost exclusively with grain dried in beech wood. This malt, produced using traditional methods, has a wonderfully smoky aroma that gives the beers from the Schlenkerla brewery their incomparable character and the powerful smoky note.
The smoked wheat combines the soft, fruity sweetness of wheat beer with strong smoke: Spicy yeast, creamy banana and a hint of cloves meet melt-in-the-mouth chocolate, vanilla, roasted aromas and campfire. A hearty undertone, reminiscent of salty bacon or smoked ham, gives the beer that certain extra and makes smoked wheat an unforgettable beer specialty.
