The latest sour ale from Freigeist Bierkultur presents us with an absolutely unusual combination. Like many sour beers, Love, Peach & Happiness is flavored with a fruit. The brewers chose the peach to give their beer a generous dose of summer. So far, so normal, if it weren’t for the unmistakable smoky note with which the fresh fruit has been combined. The team combines the sweetness and acidity of peach with a subtle smoky note that takes the sour beer in a whole new and delicious direction.
One dish that perfectly captures the combination of smoke and fruit is grilled peach. Die-hard barbecue fanatics will be outraged, but trust us, you can throw other things on the grill than just meat. For the perfect beer dessert, halve and stone ripe peaches, brush them with a little oil and place them skin-side up on the hot grill. After a while, the juices caramelize and the fruit gets a nice smoky note. We round off the dessert with a cream of ricotta, cinnamon and sugar. For a good crunch we crumble Cantuccini over it - done! The beer’s fruity acidity and earthy oaky notes complement the juicy sweetness and creaminess of the dessert wonderfully.
