A must for every hop lover.
The “backbone breaker” is a neat announcement from Hanscraft & Co.: four highly intense aromatic hop varieties went into the kettle and give the crisp IPA its hoppy omnipotence. The Aschaffenburg brewery’s range has some hop bombs, but our favorite is the Backbone Splitter! The classic West Coast IPA delights with a truckload of tropical fruit thanks to the Magnum, Simcoe, Summit and Amarillo hops.
The smell test confirms what the label already suggests: fruit and hops are present here in abundance. Hanscraft didn’t skimp on the good things and gave us a real treat of hoppy excellence.
The Backbone Splitter flows into the glass in a clear amber tone and shimmers in the strong color of ripe oranges. A fine-pored, white foam crowns the magnificent beer and exudes an irresistible scent of ripe peach, golden mango and other tropical fruits. But it’s not just the scent that’s enchanting, the range of flavors is also convincing: from bitter to sweet to hoppy and fruity, there’s everything your heart desires. Juicy peach and mango aromas mix with a fine malt sweetness, a crisp bitterness accompanies the aromatic play. Even a slight note of licorice doesn’t seem to disturb the overall composition. In the aftertaste, the bitterness slowly disappears, but a gentle sweetness remains on the tongue.
The “Backbone Breaker” is an excellent choice for advanced craft beer enthusiasts.
