As a rule, dried and treated hops are brewed. Dry hop cones, hop pellets or extracts are used. Using the fresh product is impractical in the commercial brewing industry and is therefore rather unusual. Nevertheless, two breweries have teamed up to do just that! The Riedenburger Brauhaus and the Kehrwieder brewery have joined forces and brewed an excellent beer with fresh hops.
Our beer sommelier Marco Liebig tested the beer for you and can report the following:
Fresh dream presents itself gold-colored and shiny in the glass and is crowned by a fine foam. A spicy scent of freshly dried hay, tangy grapefruit and light stone fruits fills the nose. A hint of apricot and juicy peach complement the scent and make you look forward to the first sip. The initial taste reveals a fine, sparkling viscosity with gentle malt sweetness, apricot, grapefruit and a touch of pine resin. The finish is bitter for a long time and surprises with a finish that tastes juicy, fruity and sweet like freshly harvested apricots.
Marco’s conclusion: Fresh hop beers are exclusive memories of the wonderful time of the hop harvest, which only takes place once a year. They give connoisseurs the opportunity to taste the scent and taste of the fresh, green hops even during the year. Fresh Dream pampers the palate with a rich malt body and is really drinkable with a pleasant 5.7% alcohol content. The organic Callista hops give the beer a fine soul and an incomparable taste.
Marco recommends hearty, spicy food with a mild beer. How about delicious tacos, for example? Add a spicy salsa and homemade guacamole, some nacho chips, ice-cold beer and the feast is ready!
