The brewers at the Kundmüller brewery in Weiher have come up with something very special to refine their light Doppelbock: After completion, the fine beer is poured into a wooden barrel that previously contained American bourbon. Over the years, the wooden barrel has given the bourbon a fine character and at the same time gained in aroma. The brewers use this effect to give their delicious Doppelbock that certain extra something. The bock is stored in oak barrels for several months and matures to its full splendor during this time.
The Weiherer Bock in bourbon style flows into the glass in a rich gold tone and shines wonderfully copper-colored when the light hits it. A fine, white head of foam sits on top of the beer and exudes a breathtaking scent of soft malt, spicy vanilla, gentle smoke and bourbon-soaked wood. The initial drink presents a full-bodied body with a strong 8.4% alcohol, which is wonderfully integrated into the diverse flavors. Soft, aromatic malt caresses the palate, while barrel aging adds warm notes of vanilla, bourbon, buttered popcorn, campfire smoke and spicy oak. A subtle fruitiness complements the play of aromas, while a subtle bitterness provides sufficient contrast.
