Flipper is the second beer from BRLO to take its name from a maritime film classic. Jaws, a fruity hazy pale ale, is followed by another hazy pale ale—this time alcohol-free—also developed for Beer Week Berlin 2025. Flipper, too, was created in collaboration with the Störtebeker brewery from Stralsund and combines their North German brewing skills with the flair of the capital.
The joint venture between the two breweries delivers everything you could want from a handcrafted craft beer, yet forgoes the alcohol content. At less than 0.5% ABV, Flipper could certainly be described as lean, but its makers have given the pale ale a beautiful fullness and stature through the use of barley, wheat, and oat malts. This trio of grains also lends the brew a soft base. The hops follow in a fresh, fruity, and citrus-accented tidal wave that creates a stir on both the nose and palate. A playful 15 bitterness units round out this relaxed beer experience.
Anyone looking to ride the beer wave during the day or looking for a non-alcoholic lunch companion should reach for this outstanding example. Flipper Hazy Pale Ale pairs just as well with spicy, tangy dishes as it does with grilled specialties or poultry.
