Bock is not the same as Bock, as the Ott brewery proves to us with its Ladara Bock beer. The sophisticated strong beer was not simply brewed with hops, malt, water and yeast and then bottled, it was first stored on oak wood. For this step, wood was chosen in which the finest bourbon had previously matured and which provides a lot of aroma for the brew. The Bock is served from October and is only brewed once a year. If the supply runs out, you have to wait until next year.
The wood-ripened delicacy is presented in a glass with a shimmering golden fawn color and is decorated with a white head of foam that evaporates quite quickly. An olfactory symphony of dried dark fruits, toffee and freshly baked bread rises to the nose and combines with a hint of bourbon. The initial taste follows the first impression and shines with the classic bock beer aroma of creamy caramel, candied fruits, bread crust, chocolate and brown sugar. The wood aging contributes spicy notes of leather, wood, vanilla and bourbon as well as a gently smoky component to the balanced aromatics. A mild roasted bitterness skilfully rounds off the spectrum.
