The Hummel-Bräu from Merkendorf in Franconia looks back on a centuries-long brewery history. From the very beginning, they have brewed hearty, down-to-earth beer that complements Franconian hearty cuisine wonderfully. The Hummels’ repertoire includes Pils, Helles and Kellerbier as well as seasonal specialties such as the light Maibock. One of their most popular brews is Märzen, which we sell both in bottles and in a practical 5-litre barrel.
Anyone who is wondering whether it is worth buying such a barrel should try the fine Märzen or at least take a look at its taste profile.
The Hummel’s Märzen presents itself in shiny, crystal-clear gold in the glass and shimmers a delicate copper-red. An olfactory poem of crispy stone oven bread, roasted malt, caramelized nuts and jam enchants the nose and entices the first sip. This reveals a softly carbonated body of medium weight. The aroma shines with harmony: crispy bread crust, roasted almonds and sun-ripened grain meet a fruity tartness, spicy honey notes and a balanced bitterness. The Märzen from Hummel-Bräu is extremely drinkable and reflects the Franconian art of brewing with exquisite elegance and calm finesse.
It’s up to you whether you buy a bottle or a keg, but be warned: this beer is so delicious that you’ll definitely wish you had more of it at home rather than less.
