Burned Malt is one of the new beers from Gänstaller and was brewed together with the Lithuanian brewers from Sakiškių alus . The Franconian-Lithuanian collaboration has set itself the task of creating a smoked beer: Burned Malt is a smoked Märzen with a powerful character and an irresistible smoky profile.
The unconventional smoked beer flows into the glass in a strong chestnut brown and shimmers ruby red when exposed to light. The tempting-looking beer is adorned with a huge crown of fine-pored, creamy foam. The smell of a late summer campfire rises from the hazel-brown splendor and mixes with dark caramel, smoked ham and wild berries to create a surprising and seductive composition. The initial taste follows the olfactory first impression and caresses the palate with a wonderfully bitter smoky note. The dominant smoke is accompanied by warm and sweet notes of roasted malt, gently melting caramel and red berries. The hops add a touch of freshly mown grass, but cannot outdo the malt. Burned Malt is a delicately composed smoked beer with an unusual palette of flavors and fine sophistication.
With this outstanding Rauch-Märzen, Daniela and Andreas Gänstaller prove once again that they can breathe new life and a breath of fresh air into well-tried classics with their art of brewing.
