Wild and sour – these two attributes perfectly describe the creations of Ulrike Genz. The brewmaster and owner of the Schneeeule brewery has a knack for exceptional beers. Her specialty is modern interpretations of the classic Berliner Weisse. Berliner Weisse so delicious that you don’t need to mix it with syrup to enjoy it. Ulrike understands how to combine robust acidity with a wealth of elegant aromas, creating culinary masterpieces that do justice to the beer tradition of her hometown.
One of these sophisticated brews is Michaela. This so-called Wild Sour IPA combines the untamed acidity and spicy yeast of a sour beer with the fruity hop diversity of an India Pale Ale. This unconventional brew boasts a substantial 6.5% ABV and presents itself in a densely clouded, peachy gold. A delicate head of foam sits atop the opaque body, releasing a mild aroma of green apples and delightful yeast spice. The initial impression continues on the palate. A perfectly balanced acidity caresses the palate and harmonizes excellently with the wild character of the Brettanomyces yeast. The hops contribute subtle peaks, while gentle hints of elderflower elegantly round out the flavor profile. Michaela is dry, sour, fruity, hoppy, and delicately bitter. A real success!
