Winter is when the first thick flakes fall from the slate gray sky and cover the world in a blanket of white. When frost dominates the night and paints glittering icicles on the windows, when you can see your breath rising in little clouds and the tip of your nose peeks red out of your pale face. When we wrap ourselves in a hundred layers of warm wool, put our hands in gloves and waterproof, fur-lined boots clothe our feet. When the days are getting shorter and colder and the sun is low in the sky. Then it’s winter and time for the winter whites from Jacob!
The family brewery from Bodenwöhr has specialized in brewing expressive wheat beers and, in addition to a range of refreshing, light and summery versions, also has three winter versions on offer. Winter Weisse is a full-bodied brew with a warming 5.3% ABV and an enticing chestnut colour. A rust-red veil runs through the beer and a stately, ivory-colored crown is enthroned on top. The foam is wonderfully dense and firm. Brown bread and toffee join the traditional wheat aroma of banana, yeast and clove. These notes also continue in the taste: hearty grain ensnares the palate, spice, creamy caramel, berry tones, banana, bread crust and yeast round off the aroma play.
