Anyone who knows Benedikt and his team knows that Blech.Brut doesn’t do things by halves. Beer is only served here when it’s packed to the brim with hops and delivers a truly hoppy punch. The same seems to apply to non-alcoholic beverages: The brewery recently released its first soft drink—and this one, too, features copious amounts of hops in its ingredients list.
Bloop is a so-called Brut Soda, a lemonade that stands out with its dry, slightly bitter character. Oranges form the basis of this sparkling delight: The sun-ripened citrus fruits create a refreshing flavor that conjures up summery sweetness and fruity acidity on the tongue. The Nelson Sauvin hop variety from New Zealand provides a wonderful contrast, contributing a spicy, resinous, and dry tartness to the flavor interplay, along with subtle hints of white fruits and light grapes. A delicate bitterness harmoniously rounds off the experience, making this hoppy orange lemonade a delight for those who would prefer to drink only beer.
Blech.Brut’s foray into the world of soft drinks tastes great chilled straight from the bottle or on ice, but can also be used as the basis for a fruity shandy.
