The world’s brewmasters are always looking for new techniques to get as much hops into the beer as possible. Sometimes they come across real gold when experimenting. This is what happened at Sierra Nevada: As the team was philosophizing about hop methods over an after-work beer, they came up with a brilliant idea that they wrote down on a napkin. The subject of their rough sketch was a revolutionary type of dry hopping that can add significantly more hops to the beer without significantly increasing the bitterness. They called their invention Hop Tornado and immediately set about trying out the world first on a practical example. This practical test was a wonderful success and was soon added to the core range under the title Torpedo Extra IPA.
The hopped IPA is flavored with the varieties Citra, Crystal and Magnum and, in addition to a lot of flavor, brings a lively 7.2% alcohol content and a fairly impressive 65 bitter units into the glass. The copper-red beauty with delicate clouds smells and tastes of sun-kissed citrus fruit, tropical fruit, freshly mown grass and resinous pine. A hint of caramel biscuit represents the two malts and elegantly underlines the hop explosion.
If you are looking for a classic American India Pale Ale with heart, character and traditional taste, Sierra Nevada’s Torpedo Extra IPA is the right choice!
