The namesake of this beer is an illustrious figure of the Latin American carnival: King Momo, also known as Rey Momo or King Momos, traditionally opens the festivities. Each year a different person is chosen as king of the carnival; the seasonal monarchs are usually of strong, tall stature and receive the key to the city for their leading role during the fifth season. This tradition is based on the Greek god Momos, who was responsible for satire and jokes on Mount Olympus.
Because the founding family of the Novo Brazil brewery left their Brazilian homeland to start anew in California, the traditions and customs of their homeland are particularly important to them. In honor of the Carnival King, they came up with Momo Haze: a Hazy India Pale Ale that celebrates the key figure of the foolish era with floral notes, juicy fruit and exuberant citrus aroma.
Momo Haze flows into the glass in a densely cloudy sunny gold and is crowned with a fleeting head of white foam. A bouquet of freshly baked cookies, grass clippings and tropical fruit tickles the olfactory nerves and makes you want to take your first sip. The taste is made up of very similar elements and presents us with the best of the hop varieties Saaz, Motueka and Mosaic: floral, fruity, grassy, citrus-fresh and pleasantly bitter.
