The adventurous history of the Innis & Gunn brewery began with this beer. It was the first beer brewed here and the beer that made the brewery one of the most popular in the country. Three different types of malt give the beer its wonderful color and wonderfully soft, malty aroma. The Super Styrian hops also ensure a fruity lightness in the beer. The result is a creamy Scotch Ale that becomes even smoother and spicier thanks to the additional storage in bourbon barrels.
The brewery has developed a unique process in which the beer is not poured into the keg, but rather the kegs are added to the beer. This technology allows brewers to convey more flavor into the beer with fewer barrels and to be able to control and influence the aroma of the beer more closely. For the “Barrel into Beer” method, the wooden barrels are broken down into their individual components, toasted in the oven and then placed in the beer tank. There are now five stages of roasting: Depending on how long the wood has been in the oven, it releases very different aromas. This barrel aging process is unique and was invented by master brewer and brewery founder Dougal Gunn Sharp.
The Original from Innis & Gunn is a malty beer that tastes delicately of creamy caramel and dark roasted aromas. The full-bodied beer caresses the palate in a wonderfully velvety way and, in addition to the buttery toffee note, presents a delicate hop fruitiness. The creamy and warm finish complements the play of aromas wonderfully and makes you want the next bottle.
