Like many beers from the Dutch brewery, this beer is also linked to a story. The Grapefruit Pale Ale was brewed in honor of Adriaen Block, who, according to legend, founded the first brewery on North American soil. Some historical figures make this claim, so we don't want to commit ourselves here. The only thing that is certain is that Adriaen founded one of the first breweries in the USA and thus plays a central role in the illustrious beer history of America and the Netherlands. A hero!
The brewers of the Pale Ale had a very specific image in mind when they developed the beer: a fruity, still-warm lemon cake with a light, flaky, fine-pored dough, delicious lemon zest and a topping of fine powdered sugar and freshly squeezed lemon juice. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - rather beer!
The pale ale flows golden into the glass and has a head of foam that stands out from the beer in clear white. From the foam, wonderfully fruity aromas of various citrus fruits rise to the nose. This summery first impression is confirmed in the first sip, which reveals a citrus fruit explosion. The uniquely sweet taste of fresh blood orange contains beautiful bitter notes and a pleasantly subtle acidity as well as a hint of raspberry, which gives the beer a special kind of fruit kick. The tropical aroma of grapefruit underlines the freshness of blood orange and also adds sweetness and bitterness to the mix. Sumac is the third component and a spice that is often used, especially in the oriental region. The deep red color gives the golden beer a reddish shine. The sumac also conjures up a very elegant acidity in the beer.
Lowlanders Pale Ale is a composition of tropical aromas that makes you dream and definitely tastes like more - just like a good lemon cake!
