The wedding day is one of the most important and beautiful days in the lives of lovers. In front of family and friends, you confess your feelings for each other, you toast your love with champagne and spend a day celebrating that you have each other and plan to spend the rest of your life together.
Things were probably a little different for Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. Not only could she not choose her husband herself, according to legend, she also had a bad toothache on the day that was supposed to start the wedding celebrations. The festivities lasted five days: Therese and her Ludwig were married on October 12, 1810 and then went through a program that included concerts, an opera, a ball, a horse race and a folk festival. Although the future Queen of Bavaria withdrew early due to her toothache, the location of the festival was named after her. The Theresienwiese in Munich received its name and from then on was the venue for the annual Oktoberfest, which takes place year after year in memory of the aristocratic wedding.
Of course, a whole series of beers were brewed in honor of the bride and groom - one of which is still available. The original wedding beer came from the Hochstetten brewery and is still produced today using a recipe from 1810.
