With its organic Zwicklbock, the Hofstetten brewery wants to pack a little piece of midsummer into the bottle. One sip catapults us straight into a cornfield. Ripe, golden ears of corn with silky-soft awns sway in the gentle summer breeze of a mild August evening. The next sip conjures up dark green tendrils of lush hop plants that reach seven meters into the blue sky and are covered in resinous flowers. The juicy umbels exude an intoxicating scent that we inhale with pleasure with our eyes closed.
It’s magical what a few sips of beer can do!
The magic potion that makes us indulge in such delight is a light bock beer made with barley and hops from controlled organic farming. Both the grain and the cones come from the Mühlenviertel not far from the brewery. Pilsner malt and the hop varieties Aurora, Perle, Select and Tradition were used. The Zwicklbock is brewed every year around Christmas and was launched in its current form in 2020. After the brewing process is complete, the brew matures for three months in the beer cellar deep beneath the Hofstetten brewery. The 7.4% strong brew combines honey-sweet malt, hearty grain and oven-fresh biscuit with spicy, grassy hops and a harmoniously balanced bitterness. A truly well-rounded and drinkable bock for the cold season!
