When enjoying this beer, our brain and heart travel directly to Thailand. In our heads we stroll through the humid warmth of Bangkok, the chirping of tropical birds, snippets of conversation in a strange, melodious language and the constant street noise in our ears and a mixture of exhaust fumes, exotic fruit and the smell of a hundred food stalls in our noses. We walk through the shadows of tall skyscrapers, trams rattle overhead, and speedboats carry tourists and commuters past monitor lizards and floating markets in small rivers. Lush greenery sprout from every crack and crevice, and terracotta pots with water gardens and flowering plants line the sidewalks. A short trip in an air-conditioned bus and we’re on the paradisiacal beach. Palm trees soar into the azure sky and the water laps the white sands in the shallow surf.
We sit in a deckchair and listen to the sound of the waves with our eyes closed. A warm breeze caresses the landscape, harboring scents of spicy food, cracked coconut and ripe mango. In our hand we hold an ice-cold Singha, which cools down and refreshes wonderfully. Condensation beads trickle down the can and every sip is a little oasis in the tropical sunshine.
