The aperitif is part of a menu and is a delicate way to start the evening. To get you in the mood and stimulate your appetite, you serve your guests finger food and a cocktail or something else alcoholic that is dry and not too sweet.
The team at the Espiga brewery likes to drink an aperitif before a meal and have therefore come up with one for their customers. Their version of an appetizer is not a liqueur, but a double cold-hopped India Pale Ale. The creation, called Sparkly Appetizer, was created in collaboration with the Antiga brewery from Valencia and heralds dinner with a symphony of tropical fruits. The juicy notes of mango, pineapple, guava, lime and peach are thanks to the Citra, Elani, Idaho 7 and Simcoe hops with which the brew was cold-hopped.
The breweries recommend ceviche with the beer. If fish marinated in lemon juice is a bit too tricky for you, you can also just make a burger to go with it. The brewers also recommend this dish and we have already tried it. Our choice is a classic cheeseburger with homemade sesame brioche, Sriracha mayonnaise, a grilled beef patty, melted cheddar, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato and pickle. So simple (at least if you skip the homemade bun and go for store-bought mayo) and so good!
