Figs are noble trees with delicious fruits that grow throughout the Mediterranean region and parts of Asia. Numerous legends and stories are entwined around the old cultivated plant, each region has its own legends. While in India the tree symbolizes a god and is worshiped in morning prayers, the ancient Greeks believed in the aphrodisiac properties of figs and associated them with Dionysus, the god of excess and exuberance. In Christianity, the leaves of the fig are mentioned above all: they clothe Adam and Eve after they tasted the fruit of the tree of knowledge. Countless fig leaves covering the pubic can also be found in paintings by the Old Masters and sculptures of their time.
Today, the fig adorns the shelves of our supermarkets and can also be seen in more unconventional places: on the labels of fine craft beers, for example. One of our absolute favorites with fig is Fortune Tamer. Born out of a collaboration between Browar Pinta and Sofia Electric Brewing, Baltic Porter is matured with Bulgarian figs and Bourbon Gold vanilla beans. A full 10.5% alcohol content gives the Dark Lager soul-warming properties that go perfectly with the strong sweetness and intense spiciness. A crisp bitterness skilfully rounds off the taste experience.
